S4E1 - The Other Side

This episode we theorise that Stargate episodes have only three possible ways to begin, one of them being an off-world activation of some kind.We receive an emergency distress call from an unknown group of people, who are all white and hiding in a bunker, that they need help defending themselves against an enemy that is simultaenously strong and weak. Weird, wonder what this could mean. They are willing to give up knowledge of all their super duper cool technology in exchange for a bunch of hard water. This will not be used for evil weapons. This will not be used to eradicate minorities. Daniel suspects that this might be used to eradicate minorities.Only one thing can get in the way of the space nazis. Can they not be slightly racist in the presence of Jack O'Neill long enough to get their water? No, they're Nazis.

They made the gayest movie about being straight you could possibly imagine.Set in the 90s, hackers are apparently the cool kids and they hang out in the combined arcade, night club, skate park. Was this was New York was like in the 90s? I don't know, but take me back, take me back! Like half the cast of Trainspotting are here to HACK THE PLANET and take down the evil corporation...maybe? I don't know, the corporation in this movie is kinda not portrayed all that evil as much as it is a supposedly one bad apple situation. Kinda weird take for an anti-establishment hacker movie to take, but oh well.Weird incel dude got slapped with the "touch grass" legal ordnance after causing the stock market to crash as a child in the 80s. Now he returns to the computer scene, but seems to have most of his interest devoted to stalking tomboy short-haired Angelina Jolee. Take me back, take me back, take me back. Oh yeah, the gay hacker group's idiot friend and discord kitten got caught doing dumb bullshit and now they have to save him. It's a good movie, but it sure hasn't aged too great in some areas.

Bonus Month 3! - Rocky

A heartwarming tale for the ages! You might be a down on your luck, ageing, failed boxer, but you too can fulfill the American dream of violating a woman's consent if a stern Irish man finally believes in you. I think that was the message of the movie. Either that or black people are keep doing the hard working Italian down. This is a movie from the 1970s and it reaaaaaaally shows it, folks. That being said, the parts of the movie where it isn't being viley misogynistic and low-key racist...actually pretty good, I suppose.Autism-coded Italian boxer rises against the odds to go toe-to-toe with the world champion. At least this Italian didn't back out after one punch, ayo! Rocky, a movie so classic they made it again and put a 2 at the end of it! Then they made it again. And again. Then they changed actors and turned it into almost a live action Shonen anime. That's kinda cool, I guess. Perhaps we'll do some more of this series as some point.

Bonus Month 3! - Doom (2005)

In 2004, a video game by the name of Doom 3 was released. A sequel to the blood pumping, fast-pumping, demon killing glory FPS series id Software created in 1993, this was a highly controversial release. Instead of being the ULEZ violating high speed Doomguy, you were a marine slowly trudging through dark corridors. People were kinda mad about this. In recent years, the video game has been critically re-evaluated as an excellent horror FPS that's similar in vein to a game like Alien Isolation. Why do I mention that as an introduction to the movie that came out in 2005?Because the movie is pretty much directly inspired by this game. People were mad at this movie because they didn't somehow make Doom 2: Hell on Earth into a movie, but took inspiration from the recently released video game that you can actually use to influence a movie. I love Doom. I love Doom 2. Doom 2016 was incredible and Eternal improved on everything that made those games fantastic. You can't make a movie that's really like that, it's a video game ass video game. Something, something Carmack "video game story is like the story in a porn". Maybe this movie needs to be looked at similar to how we look at Doom 3 now in some ways. That's something we discuss in this episode.Now, the movie is a cheesy B movie through and through, even if there are times were they utilise the lighting and sparing shots of the creeping horror in the station fairly well. But we enjoyed it. We went into this movie with everyone yelling about how they heard it's the worst movie of all time and something. Are you people on crack? This movie slaps. There's some aspects we dislike as we discuss in the episode, but overall we all had a good time. I guess nerds were mad because the BFG shoots a blue orb instead of a green one. Don't be mad at this for this one.

Something dangerous. Something deadly. Something lurking out of our reach. Colour grading. They don't do it like this anymore, folks. Is that good? I don't know, but I think they were cooking something with the filters over here that wasn't just the same brown MexicoArabistan scary country filter that's the only kind of colour grading we're allowed. This movie did come out before 9/11 after all. A simpler time. A time when we were still Islamophobic, but not in the same way.Oh Keith David is in this too. We like Keith David.

We’ll try our best to stay on topic this time— yes, we go a bit off the rails, but it’s mostly Godzilla-contained, we promise.
 
Come in and join Hope, our ESP G-Force operative, Ryan, the normal guy who swears he did not do anything wrong, and Storm, once again returning (for reasons we still don't understand). After Godzilla had a little meltdown and went into maximum overdrive, we see just what happens when man’s hubris comes back to haunt him... again. Don’t worry, it’s a good one!

S3E22 - Small Victories

Once again, we follow the podcast policy of no cliffhangers for the show! Our final episode of Season 3 before the next bonus month is technically the opening episode of Season 4, but shut up. This is the continuation of the Season 3 finale after all.Well, our brave heroes last episode managed to blow up the ship full of evil Lego and escape by stealing the Stargate. It was really funny. Stranded offworld while waiting for the backup Gate to be set up in Cheyenne Mountain, the gang has a thrilling offscreen adventure that will be covered in a spin off novel that we will definetly read. Unfortunately, it turns out that one of the Bionicles survived the crash and just caused the Kursk disaster to happen about a month earlier. Whoops.Our team is split into two with boypregnant Daniel being the codec support for Jack and Teal'c, while Sam hangs out with Thor and suggests 9/11 as a strategy for destroying the attacking lego ships coming for the Asgard. I promise I will stop making 9/11 jokes once we actually reach 9/11 in the show. Maybe. Probably not.This is the last main line episode before bonus month, which seems to be war movie themed I guess?

S3E21 - Nemesis

Daniel is boypregnant, Carter is doing nerd shit, Teal'c is campaigning for Fathers for Justice, and nobody wants to go fishing with Jack. Well, maybe there is hope for Jack's fishing expedition still as one of our great friends still wants to hang. Unfortunately, by hang, we mean Thor is in a box the whole episode explaining how he brought killer death lego to Earth, which will wipe everyone out if his ship lands. Whoops. The Asgard have been messing with shit they shouldn't have, so their entire civilisation is being consumed by the Lego corporation hunting them down for their illegal building techniques. We tried to tell him, you can't put a vertical piece between the studs, it's not allowed!Jack decides to bravely sacrifice himself by grabbing a SPAS-12 and enough explosives to level an iconic set of New York skyscrapers in a controlled demolition charge. It's fine to make that joke, it's 2000 and nothing will happen at all next year. There's just one condition he has for his heroic sacrifice and that is "DO NOT SEND MY FRIENDS HERE TO DIE WITH ME". Naturally, Hammond sends his friends to die with him.

S3E20 - 404 Crystal Skull Not Found

If you thought we've spent episodes just riffing before we actually talk about an episode, this is the one where in fact just riffed. Nothing happens in Crystal Skull. Really nothing. It has some interesting ideas and on paper, I could see this being a fun one that could set up Daniel's grandfather as an interesting character who could be a cool new minor character we see aaand...Mr. Not Appearing Again strikes again. Daniel is a ghost and is trying to sell us all bad vodka made by a weird crank who once hunted ghosts on a mission from God to play blues music or something.Yeah this is one where we're sorting of just doing therapy about how the UK is going through it right now. If you don't want to hear all that, feel free to give this one a miss. We've got the finale coming up after this that should be a regular return to form on this show and I (Sierra) have it on good authority that it's going to be pretty good, plus Season 4 will be a return to good television after the drought that this season mostly has been.We're really professsional here, as we stand on the Honkplatz.

While searching for the baby, Daniel for yes this is a Daniel episode. Must choose between his wife, his wife's kid and the chance that he might yet get to acheive what that one guy on Grand Designs wanted to do. He might be able to fuck mother nature itself
